In the face of a profound experience- be that love, loss, trauma, joy - often times we find ourselves lost for words. This body of work explores the struggle between needing language to make sense our experiences, and the fundamental failure of language’s ability to express the truth of experience.
The words comprising these images originated as poetry. Upon realizing that the vocabulary I possessed, no matter its quality, could never adequately articulate the truth of what I was writing about, it became necessary to exploit the failures of language, and push these texts to the limits of what could be considered language. By introducing chance operations, faulty AI translation applications, content aware fill, etc, these texts reached their - if not final - current destination. The beauty in human experience lies in the unknowable- where our ability to articulate or understand our experiences breaks down, and the only thing left to do is to do nothing at all, and gaze in wonder.
